Happy New Year - January 2024 Newsletter
We would like to wish all our members a very Happy New Year!
We hope you have all enjoyed a restful and relaxing break and are ready to get back to the dojo. We have missed you all and can’t wait to get back to kickin’ and punchin’.
Lets get working off all of those extra calories and get after it. Set your goals - keep them realistic and achievable and you’ll find that you will return to training with renewed focus and energy. Movement is medicine so if you are feeling sluggish, get up and get moving again! You will feel so much better for it, I promise. It will also be great to get the kids back into their routine - exercising instead of X-boxing or playstationing!!!
Be stronger than your excuses and lets get fitter, faster and stronger TOGETHER!
Any parents who usually sit at the side and watch, why not come and get involved. There has never been a better time to start and make a positive change to your physical and mental health. We had a few parents join back in December and they are smashing it! Just message info@redtigerkarateclub.co.uk and ask us for a login. We will be delighted to set you up and get you started.
Our classes re-open on Thursday 4th January onward and you can book via the APP now. New year is a busy period for recruiting beginners so we advise that you get your places booked whilst you can, especially in our busier dojos. You can book right up to the end of February. If you’ve not been to class for a while, you will be welcomed back. Dust off that gi and get back in the dojo. We are ready and waiting for you!
Squad class and Instructor class re-opens on Monday 8th January.
Don’t forget we have a brand new Kumite Coach starting on Monday 8th January from 7-8pm. Molly Austin-Hogsden Sensei is an outstanding karateka with plenty of competitive experience. She has won medals at National and International level. We are really excited to give her this opportunity and we know has some great plans for 2024. Kata Squad re-opens on Monday 15th January with Mike Baron Sensei, Grace Baron Sensei and Gary Pratley Sensei. As always, all are welcome to come and benefit from this advanced training.
1:1 and Small Group Training

January Events
The following events will take place in January so get them in the diary:
Sunday 14th January - Cadet Leader & Assistant Selections Instructor Class.
Time: 11am-12.15pm@ Thornleigh Salesian Sports College, Sharples Park, Bolton. BL1 6PQ. (Mirrored Hall).
This class is put on by the club free of charge for Cadet Leaders and Assistant Instructors who help in our classes and will run every other month throughout 2024. Of course any Sensei’s who would like to come along and train/help, you are also more than welcome.
Both Assistants and Cadets will train together at the same time but we split into two different sections.
We will work on the development of your own karate and your teaching skills.
We would like as many of our Cadets and Assistants as possible to attend this event and take advantage of this great opportunity.
WE NEED YOU! We are also looking for new Cadet Leaders and Assistant Instructors so if you fancy giving it a go and helping out in our lessons, please have a chat with your Sensei or turn up at this class. We will find a class with a vacancy for you.
All attendees will be appointed a dojo and listed on our Cadet Leader and Assistant Instructor Page.
Why become a Cadet or an Assistant?
Our Cadet Leader and Assistant Instructor programme started back in 2008 and has produced some outstanding Instructors for us.
Over the years the following Red Tigers have followed the system from Cadet right through to Sensei and now teach their own RTK classes: Grace Baron Sensei, Sam Jackson Sensei, Callum Miles Sensei and Molly Austin-Hogsden Sensei.
All have taken full advantage of our teaching programme and are now producing some amazing students of their own. The vast majority of our Instructors have also passed through our Assistant Instructor programme.
Learning through teaching others is beneficial in many ways.
They learn how to speak clearly and demonstrate in front of groups which gives them an advantage in further education.
We choose those with the best karate, commitment, behaviour and focus. They stand at the front and in turn train harder and grow in confidence
They learn how to interact effectively with both children and adults
They set the example that we want all juniors in our dojo to follow (behaving responsibly)
They help us - to help the class members reach their goals
Teamwork, the most successful dojos in the club all have the same thing in common - they have a full team that teaches the class, Cadets, an Assistant and the Sensei. This way, we can cater for everyone and we all get better.
Free training every other month Cadet Leader and Assistant Instructor class alongside the best students in all areas of the Club spanning from Warrington and Wilmlsow right over to Darwen in Lancashire.
High School students completing Duke of Edinburgh Awards can also use our Cadet Leader programme to fulfil the VOLUNTEERING section of the Duke of Edinburgh awards. Cadet Leaders and Assistants just need to send in their candidate number and level they are completing and we will complete an assessors report on your behalf.

Late January - Seniors Training In Japan
At the end of January, some of our seniors will be travelling to Tokyo, Japan for winter training. We will be posting photos and updating our Club social media accounts regularly. All classes will be running as normal whilst the seniors are taking part in this advanced training. We hope that our trip is a successful one and that we will be able to offer the opportunity to travel and train in Japan to students in 2025. Wish us luck!
