11 Medals at the Sale Dojo Invitational Championships

20 brave Red Tigers stepped out on the mat for the first time as a full squad since before COVID.

We are so proud of each and every student who took part. You carried yourselves with class, tried your very best and win, lose or draw showed great spirit on the day.

For some, this was their first ever competition and perhaps a baptism of fire. But you should be so proud of yourselves for starting the journey and gaining experience. Many of the competitors you came up against were vastly experienced or much higher grades, but we all had to start somewhere - so well done! Some of you will be feeling understandably disappointed today, but you mustn’t be hard on yourself. We are here to help and support you.

We have a starting point and the only way is UP. Set yourself a goal for your next competition. For example; if you are a Kata competitor, you want to get at least one flag. For a Kumite competitor, aim for just one point. Then we can build it up. The champions don’t get there by accident. It is many years of hard work, getting beat, learning from it, remaining determined, establishing a good reputation and making progress bit by bit. You CAN do it.

Our fab squad was: Jayden Clarke, Isaac Whittaker, Aaron Jefferson, Loui D’Attorre, William Cristoforo, Joshua Mangnall, Joel Mander, Callum Baker, Georgie Dyal, Greg Burton, Jaime Pratley, Izzy Baron, Kyle Girault, Lola Girault, Grace Baron, Sophie Lever, Daisy Parton, Lola Fellone, Molly Austin-Hogsden and Ellis Pindoria-Stott.

Well done to you all.

Thank you to the parents for your support and giving them the opportunity to do this. Thanks also to the coaches (Rob Sensei, Grace Sensei, Gary Sensei, Mike Sensei and Connor Sensei) for your hard work leading up to this comp and throughout the day. We have plenty of feedback for the students on their performances which we will discuss over the next couple of squad classes.

It was also a pleasure to see a few supporters from the Club turn up to cheer the squad on. Thanks also to Lori-Ann Moran who was a great help making sure the competitors were where they were supposed to be when all the coaches were on the mats. Teamwork makes the dream work and we have the best :-)
