Venue:

Kearsley Academy, Springfield Road, Kearsley, Bolton. BL4 8HY

Doors will open to students at 9.40am.

Officials will be meeting from 9am.

If you cannot find your name or think you have been put in the wrong category, contact us as soon as possible via: info@redtigerkarateclub.co.uk

We want to thank you all for entering, without you having a go, we would have no event.

Carefully check the times you are on and turn up at least 20-30 minutes early to warm up, hand in your license and familiarise yourselves with the set up.

We will have 4 Tatami’s running at a time.

It is free of charge to come and support.

The medals are ready, the draws have been done. the officials are all prepped and raring to go.

Certificates and medals will be awarded immediately after your event and then you are free to go home/stay on a little longer to watch.

We are looking forward to a tremendous day. Kiai nice loud, show great spirit and be so proud of your karate.

A few reminders:

This is a karate event - a disciplined martial art. No poor sportsmanship or unacceptable behaviour will be tolerated on the day. No arguing with the decisions made please. Appeals will only be considered if there has been an error with scoring or timekeeping and you have video evidence. If you think you can make better decisions than us, join us next time!

Children must be supervised by their parents or an appointed adult. It is not a drop off situation, the Instructors are all officiating.

Our Championships is a fun event for all the family. Everyone gets a certificate and there are over 150 medals up for grabs and around the same amount of competitors. There will be plenty of happy people. If you don’t win, you will learn. Either way, you have gained experience and been brave enough to have a go. You’ve come out of your comfort zone and will grow in skill and confidence. You will learn what to do, and what not to do next time. It all adds up.

Please be patient with our Officials. It is over 3 years since many of us have done any refereeing or judging. We *may* be a little *rusty* but we are your Instructors and are going to try our best. And……. remember…….. you will still be training with us after. Squats anyone?!!!!!

Bring your valid license and any equipment you need. A clean and ironed uniform with the Club Badge on the left chest. Mitts and Pads and a gum shield for kumite events. Any licenses that are out of date can be renewed here………

There will be some items from the online shop available to purchase on the day and food and drink available at reasonable prices.

We do not mind pictures and videos being taken but please do not come onto the Tatami’s with shoes on to take photos of the certificate/medal presentation. Keep well back when the students are competing for both your own and their safety. We would love to see your photo’s on our Red Tiger Karate Facebook page or Instagram accounts.

We are always grateful for the wonderfully supportive parents we have at RTK.

With that said, I hope you don’t mind us giving you a quick guide to how you can reinforce this Championships as a positive learning experience for your children.

What we need from our RTK parents to help us make it a great day:

  • Be organised and on time - have everything ready your child needs and arrive nice and early

  • Be positive and encouraging, praising your child for their effort and not just the outcome.

  • Manage expectations, avoiding adding any pressure to win

  • Encourage them to warm up, practise and focus before their event

  • Cheer for not only your child but also others - we are all one team here

  • Respect the officials and the opposition

  • Allow your child to enjoy themselves - have fun and learn lessons from the sport

  • Encourage your child to make their own decisions and accept the outcome

  • Look for the good, or simply let them know how proud you are that they were able to perform their karate in front of other people.

Please avoid the following:

  • Constantly shouting instructions - this can be overwhelming, confusing and will not help them to win

  • Arguing/disagreeing with officials - for obvious reasons, this is not the example we want to set (this rarely happens thankfully).

  • Comparing your child to others. Some of our kids train every single day. Some are at Regional or even National level. Some are at their first competition ever. Everyone learns at their own pace and some may become overwhelmed with the occasion and not perform as well as we might expect them to. Others will exceed all expectations. Each child is an individual.

  • Please, please, please - do your best to hide any disappointment, I can 100% guarantee that you won’t be feeling as bad as they do.

  • Please remember it is hard enough to get up and have a go at Kata/Kumite without Mum or Dad saying - win a medal. It adds extra pressure and does not help to clear their mind before they go on. It will be more helpful to say - Go out there and enjoy it!

Let’s have a brilliant day!

Any questions/comments as always we are happy to hear them ping them to - info@redtigerkarateclub.co.uk!
